Navigating the Future: An Updated Product Roadmap
Navigating the Future: An Updated Product Roadmap
In response to the needs of our clients, we’re continuously innovating the features and functions of our newsroom software, Superdesk. Here’s a look at the latest capabilities now available – and what’s planned in upcoming releases – for our award-winning headless CMS.
Just released: Superdesk 2.9
Enhancements to the Planning Component are now available in Superdesk 2.9, bringing more flexibility to newsroom planning workflows. Users can add multiple events to a single planning item.In addition, list views have been updated. Associated items are connected to either an event or a planning item, with the ability to fold and unfold the associated items for a more streamlined view. These improvements apply across both the planning and event views.
Coming soon: Superdesk 2.10
One of the most significant additions in this release is the Availability Manager, a tool designed to streamline how news agencies coordinate freelance contributions across regions and tasks. Freelancers will be able to manage their availability – full or partial – for each day directly within their profile. Managers, meanwhile, get a colour-coded interface for quickly assessing the freelancers’ availability by date, language, region, and task. More than just scheduling, the system also tracks freelancer contributions – such as the number of articles – and ties that data to availability for more accurate payment calculation. This information is accessible via an API.
In development: Superdesk 3.0
With version 3.0, Superdesk will become asynchronous, development supported by a consortium of Superdesk-powered news agencies. This major architectural update will allow the platform and all its components to handle various tasks in parallel, significantly boosting performance when managing high volumes of items.
Next up: Superdesk 3.1
The Planning Component is also getting an upgrade. Coming soon is a feature that allows planning items to be created directly from an event through an embedded form by filling in the event data. An event can also be created directly from a planning item.
New with Newshub 3.0
As with Superdesk, Newshub is undergoing a major redesign underpinned by asynchronous technologies. The latest release modernises the platform’s core libraries and significantly improves system responsiveness, particularly in the handling of large media files and user management.
